About Welcome U
Welcome U is a project between Danmarks Basketball-Forbund, Volleyball Danmark and Nordea Fonden, that aims at young people aged 19-25.
A key element of the project is that the project is for young people on young people's premises where young people have a real influence in all phases of the project. Below you can read about the background of the project.
Every year more and more young people jump into a new and exciting life as a student. Study start is often associated with the need to find student housing, manage a tight budget with expenses for books, PC, parties and more that are a natural part of the transition to the independent life as a student. Habbits are broken and new has to be found and tested just like friendships and social networks will change and must be reestablished. As a young student it is difficult not to be overwhelmed by all these choices, and figures from the Danish statistics unfortunately shows that an increasing number of young people are unhappy, feel lonely or stressed. In short, youth mental health is under pressure and the time studying is with an angry and sad feeling rather than stimulating and motivating.
The purpose of the Welcome U is making a difference for young people. Volleyball Danmark and the National Basketball Association, in close cooperation with studenst and student organizations, want to create new and easier entrances for young people to sports clubs, where they have the opportunity to be part of a community that goes beyond the study environment. Most experts agree that team sport has very specific qualities when it comes to well-being, quality of life and physical well-being.
Welcome U is thus put in place to support young people in their studies and help them to cope with high academic demands of the study and the pressures that the modern life for young people causes.
